CDQ Receives Favorable Arbitration Ruling

CDQ’s Dan Quigley, Gabe Aragon, Jenna Brownlee and Cole Kubosumi received a 3-member arbitration panel’s favorable final award in a matter where the other side sought well over $8 million in damages in a partnership dispute over a closely-held business valued at more than $30 million. CDQ inherited the case after liability had in part already been found. Following a final evidentiary hearing, post hearing briefing, extended closing arguments, and briefing on attorneys’ fees, the panel awarded less than $1 million, rejecting virtually all the other side’s damages and liability arguments.   The Panel also made a net attorneys’ fee award in favor of CDQ’s clients.  The 5-day hearing was held over Zoom during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and is believed to be among the first all-virtual trials in a complex commercial dispute.
